Paper, Film and
Foil Converter Selects
R.K.B. Splice Detector Technology

Syracuse, NY, January 15, 2001-R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC.,
the world leader in providing
splice detector technology, has been selected by a major paper, film and foil
converter to supply leading edge splice detection technology.
This acquisition marks the 31st system to be implemented throughout
our customers organization worldwide.
R.K.B. is proud to continue its partnership as a valued
supplier of their quality control and assurance objectives. “Over the years,
R.K.B. has provided our customer with many successful splice detection solutions.
Our partnership has grown and will continue to grow as the need for essential
and reliable fault detection becomes more vital to ensure
customers receive the highest quality and splice free product available”
stated R.K.B.
Our splice detection technology detects sudden changes in web material thickness due to splices
or missing plys as well as detecting web breaks in high-speed sheeting, laminating,
coating, printing and associated converting processes. Our splice
detection technology helps manufacturers achieve their quality assurance
initiatives by reducing down time, eliminating broke and preventing costly
repairs to rolls, dies, blankets and other sensitive production equipment.
Our technology monitors single and multiple webs of papers, films and other
types of non-metallic web based materials. Outputs produced by our
technology are used to automatically control processes such as reject control
gates, nip pressure, calender release pressure, treaters, and print heads.
Designed for center of web mounting, the unit can be positioned anywhere along the
web and requires no operational intervention upon deckle or web width changes.
R.K.B. has pioneered the field of splice detection. Material color, machine
speed, caliper changes and type of splice markings do not affect operations and
the unit will automatically recalibrate to new production conditions.
Among our many innovations besides our splice detection technology is our very
successful coating scratch machine vision technology. This patented
technology detects streaks and scratches as small as 1 micron (depending on
material and application requirements) at any known speed. R.K.B.
OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC., designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the most
diverse line of machine vision and web inspection technologies currently
available to web based material manufacturers. R.K.B., headquartered in Syracuse,
New York, has offices and partners worldwide with its Asian Headquarters located
in Suzhou, China.
