German Sheeter Maker Selects R.K.B.

Splice Detector Technology

Splice Detector, Model 1032B for paper, film and related conversion processes

Syracuse, NY, September 18, 2001-R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC., the world’s leading supplier of splice detector technology, has been selected again a leading German paper machinery manufacturer to supply state-of-the-art splice detection technology.

R.K.B. is pleased to have been selected for its high-speed, splice detector technology.   “Over the years, R.K.B. has provided many customers with highly successful splice detection solutions.  Our partnerships have grown and will continue to grow as the need for essential and reliable fault detection becomes more vital to ensure customers receive the highest quality and splice free product available” stated RKB.

The Model 1032 detects sudden changes in web material thickness due to splices, tearouts, or web breaks in high speed papermaking, printing, converting, and similar manufacturing processes.  The performance of the Model 1032 is not affected by changes in material basis weights, splice tape colors, or process speed.  Model 1032 Splice Detectors help manufacturers reduce product damage and downtime while preventing costly repairs to rolls, dies, and sensitive production equipment.  The Model 1032 Splice Detector is capable of monitoring single or multiple webs of papers, plastics, films, and other types of nonmetallic materials.  Outputs produced by the device can be used to automatically control production equipment such as sheeters, coaters, supercalenders, extrusion laminators, roto presses, slitters, rewinders, and paper machines.  The Model 1032 Splice Detector is designed for edge of web mounting and can be positioned anywhere along the web.  It can be easily repositioned to accommodate changes in web width in support of just-in-time, short run, or high product mix conditions.

Founded to meet the needs of multinational paper, film, foil, steel, non-wovens and other allied manufacturers for web inspection related equipment, R.K.B. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the most diverse line of machine vision and web inspection solutions in the world.  R.K.B. was the first commercial on-line web inspection supplier in the world.  With more than fifty years experience in web inspection development, techniques and solutions, R.K.B. has significantly extended the benefits of automatic optical web inspection.  Early R.K.B. systems were based on patented ultraviolet, photomultiplier and infrared, phototransistor technology. In the 1970’s, R.K.B. developed and patented the first camera-based system called the Vidicon 7000.  Using the most advanced technology available, R.K.B. streak detection systems can monitor and detect streaks and scratches down to sizes that no other company can achieve no matter what process speed you’re manufacturing at.  Our Model 3020 truly is the latest breakthrough in the art of defect fault detection.  This advanced scanner truly represents a quantum leap forward in the technology!
