CCD Camera Web Inspection Technology evaluated by
The Institute of Paper Science and Technology
Syracuse, NY, February 28 2002 – R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC. (R.K.B), a leading supplier of machine vision web inspection solutions, announced today that the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (IPST) in cooperation with the American Forest and Paper Association; Measurement Technology Committee (AF&PA/MTC) has finalized its report on the comparative evaluation study of on-line, camera-based video web inspection technology. Specifically, the evaluation of R.K.B. OPTOMIZER® line of Machine Vision Web Inspection Technologies designed for on-line, high-speed inspection of coating streaks, holes and defect flaws.
In brief, R.K.B. camera-based inspection solution was evaluated for the detection of coating streaks, visual flaws (i.e., dirt, bugs, etc.) and holes. The goal was to verify the technology method, the capability of the inspection unit and the repeatability of such a detection method as applied to high-speed web based material manufacturing. It will be noted in the report that R.K.B. solution was the only one tested by the IPST. Other suppliers that initially committed themselves to this very important evaluation, for one reason or another, failed to provide their equipment for evaluation. Although these companies are not listed in the IPST report by name, they are all well known in the industry. The reasons for their unwillingness to have their solutions evaluated by this well known and prestigious organization are unclear and we have decided to leave it up to the reader to decide why?
The IPST states in their report that R.K.B. camera-based solution performed very well and detected with accuracy, reliability and repeatability the various defects set forth by the studies guidelines. R.K.B. solution was able to provide accurate information on defect type, location, and size. The R.K.B solution provided consistent detection up to speeds of 5,000 fpm and showed the IPST that R.K.B. alternative coating streak detection methods, unlike any other web inspection supplier, is not only viable, but also very reliable and accurate. If you are serious about web inspection and interested in a solution that truly works, please contact the IPST or R.K.B for further information.
Founded to meet the needs of multinational paper, film, foil, steel,
non-wovens and other allied manufacturers for web inspection related equipment,
R.K.B. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the
most diverse line of
machine vision web inspection solutions in the world. R.K.B was the first
commercial on-line web inspection supplier in the world. With more than fifty
years experience in web inspection development, techniques and solutions, R.K.B
has significantly extended the benefits of automatic optical web inspection.
Early R.K.B systems were based on patented
ultraviolet, photomultiplier and
infrared, phototransistor technology. In the 1970’s, R.K.B developed and
patented the first camera-based system called the Vidicon 7000. Using the most
advanced technology available, R.K.B. streak detection systems can monitor and
detect streaks and scratches down to sizes that no other company can achieve no
matter what process speed you’re manufacturing at. Our patented streak detection
technology truly is the latest breakthrough in the art of defect fault
detection. This advanced scanner truly represents a quantum leap forward in the
technology! |
