Alcan Invests in RKB Crease and Coating Lump Detection Technology
Syracuse, NY, September 23, 2002 – R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC. (R.K.B), a world leading supplier of machine vision and web inspection solutions, announced today that Alcan Packaging, a leading supplier of flexible packaging to the food and beverage industry worldwide, has purchased RKB Model 4010® Crease and Lump Detector.
The detector is designed to identify creases, lumps, splices, and other types of elevation defects in moving webs of material. As elevation defects are encountered, an inspection roller in the device momentarily looses contact with the web material allowing light to reach a sensor for defect detection and subsequent control of processing equipment. Because of the mechanical construction and operating principles of this detector, it can be used in a wide variety of web inspection applications for both metallic and nonmetallic materials. Model 4010 Crease and Lump Detectors use modular sensing heads with two three inch long rollers to provide a six-inch wide inspection capacity. These sensing heads can be combined, side by side, to span any web width required for the application. Rolling contact, and minimal contact force, prevents damage to the web material during inspection. Outputs produced by the device can be used to automatically control production equipment such as sheeters, coaters, supercalendars, extrusion laminators, roto presses, slitters, rewinders, and paper machines.
Founded to meet the needs of multinational paper, film, foil, steel,
non-wovens and other allied manufacturers for web inspection related equipment,
R.K.B. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the
most diverse line of
machine vision web inspection solutions in the world. R.K.B was the first
commercial on-line web inspection supplier in the world. With more than fifty
years experience in web inspection development, techniques and solutions, R.K.B
has significantly extended the benefits of automatic optical web inspection.
Early R.K.B systems were based on patented
ultraviolet, photomultiplier and
infrared, phototransistor technology. In the 1970’s, R.K.B developed and
patented the first camera-based system called the Vidicon 7000. Using the most
advanced technology available, RKB streak detection systems can monitor and
detect streaks and scratches down to sizes that no other company can achieve no
matter what process speed you’re manufacturing at. Our patented streak detection
technology truly is the latest breakthrough in the art of defect fault
detection. This advanced scanner truly represents a quantum leap forward in the
technology! |
