Syracuse, NY, March 01, 2004 – R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, Incorporated (R.K.B), a leading supplier of web inspection, machine vision and specialized coating inspection technologies announced the successful startup of its patented Model 3020 High Resolution Coating Scratch and Streak Detection Technology.  This system is installed on a coater producing siliconized material for various label, food and health packaging applications.  The system is not affected by material type, color or machine speed and far exceeds reliability than any other known inspection solution.   

 

The R.K.B “Streak Detection” solution is designed, in this application, to inspect for coating streaks as small as 0.004" (0.10mm) wide.  The streak detection solution is a state-of-the-art, patented machine vision technology designed for use to automatically identify, detect, classify and display coating streaks and scratches (scores, grit lines) that commonly occur in many types of coated material processes such as paper, film, foil, steel and other allied industry products.  R.K.B. automated inspection technology allows all kinds of web-based material manufacturers to produce a high caliber product more cost-effectively. Unlike CCD or CMOS line-scanning cameras, laser or phototransistor sensing solutions that do not work well, R.K.B. streak detection technology actually improves real-time processes and significantly reduces losses due to customer returns, quality concerns; mechanically or aesthetically, unnecessary machine down time, or damaged sensitive process equipment like supercalendars, printing blankets, treaters, etc.
