Maker of United States Currency Updates

Registration Control Technology

Watermark, keymark and bugmark register control technology by RKBSyracuse, NY, September 24, 2002 – R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC. (R.K.B), a world leading supplier of machine vision and web inspection solutions, announced today that the manufacturer of United States Currency has invested in upgrades for their Register Control Technology supplied by R.K.B..

The Model 1108 will accurately, reliably and consistently monitor and detect ‘Bug’ (keymarks) marks that are manufactured into a paper web at specific intervals for process control. The ‘Bug’ marks are produced by reducing the amount of fiber located in the area where the “Bug’ mark is to be located. This reduction in fiber area allows for an increase in energy to be transmitted through the web where it is detected by state-of-the-art sensory technology. Once detected, an electronic signal will be generated and processed by proprietary circuitry to a specific voltage pulse. This pulse will be conditioned to provide a frequency equal to 1/100 of an inch or better for each pulse generated. The accuracy can be set at + or – 2/100 of an inch or better.

The system is designed to inform operational staff of ‘Bug’ mark placement and to make any necessary adjustments for out of sync watermarks, + or – the distance of the preset limit set by operational staff. The inspection station will be interfaced into a main system control unit consisting of an electronic control console and an operator control console and an energy source unit. The operational control station will provide and indicate actual distance between watermarks and sound an alarm when the watermarks become out of sync.

Founded to meet the needs of multinational paper, film, foil, steel, non-wovens and other allied manufacturers for web inspection related equipment, R.K.B. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the most diverse line of machine vision web inspection solutions in the world.
