Picks R.K.B. Web Inspection Technology

 

R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC., a leader in providing machine vision, web inspection, splice detection, edge marking and quality assurance and control technologies, has been selected to supply its state of the art Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology.  This technology, based on R.K.B.'s proven Model 1032 Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology, will be provided to Black Clawson Converting a global leader in high-performance plastic and rubber extrusion and converting systems based in New York and implemented on their state of the art coating/laminating technology.  Our Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology guarantees the detection of all splice (joint) type defects.  Simple and very cost effective, the R.K.B. Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology has become one of the most commonly used inspection solution worldwide.

R.K.B. and our partners offer our customers with a comprehensive solution that are not affected by discrete basis weight changes, changes in caliper of material, color of material, machine production speeds and type of defects.

 

R.K.B.'s Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology monitors the caliper value of web based material that the technology is applied to.  Two capacitive assemblies are contained within the sensor body adjacent to one another.  Due to its proprietary design, the material being monitored is treated as a dielectric and as such, any sudden and abrupt change in caliper will create a dielectric differential.  At the point of differential, the dielectric value is "out of phase".  This out of phase signal in processed with patented and proprietary circuitry  that outputs an electronic signal representative of a splice (joint) fault.  Since this detection is performed on a comparative basis, long term variances in product caliper, coat weight, basis weight, moisture and other mechanical properties are non-effective and do not interfere with actual detection.  As a result, there is never a false signal, the Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology will self calibrate to grade changes, any material color or type (non-metallic) can be processed, and the unit will operate at any known process speed period!!  Each Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology comes with an amber alarm indicator to indicate a "splice fault".  In addition, a dry contact relay is provided for customers to output splice signals to activate reject gates, audio/visual alarms, counters, edge marking systems, plc units and other various control type systems.  The Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology is designed for input power of 120/220 VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz.   Two dry output contact closures are provided  and rated for 0.1 Amps @ 120VAC or 0.05 Amp @ 220VAC.  The Model 1032B Classic® Splice Detector™ Technology also provides a 15VDC positive going digital pulse @ 10 milliseconds (+/-3).

 

R.K.B. pioneered the field of web inspection for web based paper, film, foil and allied material manufacturing.  R.K.B. developed and patented many of the technologies currently in use today such as infrared phototransistor flaw detection technology, inductive and capacitive detection technology, ultraviolet phototube hole detection technology and camera based machine vision web inspection technology.  In fact, R.K.B. was the first company in the world that incorporated camera sensors for the detection of defect faults in web material in the mid 1970's and patented this technique called the VIDISCAN 7000.  Today R.K.B. invests a majority of its capital to research and development in new defect fault detection sensor techniques.  Among our many innovations besides our patented splice detection technology, which is the world leading technology used for the detection of splice (joint) tape faults, is our very successful patented Model 3020 OPTOMIZER® Coating Streak/Scratch Inspection Technology.  This technology, now being emulated and copied (badly we might add), by various European inspection solution suppliers, detects streaks and scratches as small as 1 micron (0.000039 inches (0.001 millimeter)) wide at any known process speed.  This is not only theoretical proven, but proven online at various coated paper makers worldwide.  Refer to the three studies provided herein for customer verification of the success of our streak detection technology which can be found at the following links "European Coated Board Installation", "Consolidated Papers Inc., On-line Evaluation Verification" and the comparative study done by the "American Forest Products Association in conjunction with the Institute for Paper Science and Technology".  These three vital documents were produced in a bipartisan process by each of these companies.  R.K.B.
