Reject Gate Control Technology

 

Reject Gate Control TechnologySyracuse, NY, July 20, 2009 - R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC., A world leader in machine vision and web inspection design and supply, has received an order for its state-of-the-art Reject Gate Control Technology.  The equipment will be implemented on an Accura sheeter/sorter  and integrated into R.K.B. splice detector technology to ensure that each and every splice (joint) fault defect is rejected prior to stacking.  Simple and cost effective, the reject gate control solution will out perform any software devised technique currently in use by many leading sheeter/sorter manufacturers.  This technology will guarantee the reject of all splice defects with an average return on investment less than 30 days.  In this particular application, the Reject Gate Control Technology has been acquired by Asian Pulp and Paper Company, Pindo Deli Division located in Java, Indonesia.    

 

The Reject Gate Control Technology interfaces with a wide variety of web inspection, processing, and material handling equipment to provide automatic sorting or rejection of defective material. A precision encoder, combined with the unitís digital memory, makes it possible for the unit to determine how many complete sheets and fractional sheets are between the inspection system and the reject gate.  Since the precision encoder is hard coupled to the drive knife, system accuracy is not speed dependent.  The technology is designed to ensure that only sheets with defect faults are rejected. It can be used to process multiple products of differing lengths through front panel switch settings. A margin inhibit switch can be used to disengage the reject mechanism when a defect falls within 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) of the cut line (i.e., within a margin which will be trimmed later). If a large defect occurs that spans multiple sheets, the unit ensures that all defective sheets are rejected.  Reject Accuracy of this unit is 1/64" Max. (0.4 mm Max.) with a Margin Inhibit Range of 0.5 to 1.5% of Sheet Length.  Input to the device is a 9-12 VDC Pulse from defect detection equipment with outputs of 2.0 Amp at 20 VDC, DPDT Relay Contact @ 5.0 Amp rating or an option DPDT Relay Contact rated at 10.0 Amps.  Primary power to the unit is 120VAC through an R.K.B. supplied constant voltage regulator/power conditioner.  Total power consumption including reject solenoids is 50 watts or less.   The R.K.B. Reject Gate Control Technology can be combined with R.K.B. inspection equipment to form an integrated, single source, system for your sorting and inspection applications. The technology is also compatible with a wide variety of third party sensors and web inspection equipment to meet diverse needs.
