Syracuse, NY, February 09,
2011 - R.K.B.
OPTO-ELECTRONICS,
INC., a leader in providing machine vision, web inspection, splice detection and
quality assurance and control technologies, has been selected to update
its hole detector technology located at a leading North East United
States fine paper maker. The technology is mounted on paper
machinery just prior to the take up reel. The hole detector
inspects for critical hole defects that can commonly occur during the
manufacturing process. Our ultraviolet hole
detector technology will guarantee the detection of holes down to sizes
as small as 1 mm diameter. Simple and very cost effective, the
R.K.B. Ultraviolet Hole Detector Technology is the most commonly used
hole detection device in operational today.
R.K.B. is pleased to have been selected to supply their quality
assurance and control needs and are proud to have been selected as
their valued supplier
for their high-speed hole detection requirements. “Over the years, R.K.B. has provided many
customers with very successful and reliable hole detection solutions and our
partnerships have grown and will continue to grow as the need for essential and reliable
hole detection becomes more vital to ensure customers receive the highest
quality and defect free product available” stated R.K.B.
Our Ultraviolet Hole Detector
Technology utilizes ultraviolet light for its detection process. A lamp
housing assembly containing a line of UV Lamps is mounted on the top side of the
web material allowing a narrow column of ultraviolet light that is produced to
be transmitted and directed toward the sensing assembly located on the bottom
side of the web material. The web material acts as an opaque shade which
prevents the passage of ultraviolet light from reaching the sensing heads
located on the sensing assembly. When a hole (void) passes by the narrow
column of UV light, the light is passed on to a sensing head where the light
energy is further processed. The specially designed sensing head blocks
all ambient light allowing only ultraviolet to pass through. The sensing
head, consisting of a small water tight enclosure, houses the photo sensors and
processing circuitry. A small specially designed window in each head
allows ultraviolet light to pass into the enclosure through a narrow band
interference filter. This filter chemically converts the ultraviolet light
to visible light that is picked up by the photo sensors and then processed.
The interference filter eliminates the "noise" created by ambient light, thus
masking the entire system from mill lighting and other various sources of
visible light. Once the ultraviolet light is processed, the information is
transmitted to an integrated control enclosure for further processing.
This processing then takes the electronic signal generated from the ultraviolet
light and performs various algorithms such as hole defect sizing and location.
Additionally, the system will determine if a repeating hole is present and what
the possible source of that repeat is. Our Ultraviolet Hole Detector
Technology is generally installed just prior to take up reels and can be
implemented on any line where hole defect detection is required. R.K.B.
hole detectors are found on paper machines, coating machines, slitters, winders,
sheeters, cold rolled steel, aluminum lines and any other material process that
required hole defect detection.
R.K.B. has pioneered the field of web inspection for paper, film, foil and
allied web based materials. Material colors, machine speed and caliper
changes do not affect detection capabilities. R.K.B. has developed
and patented many of the technologies currently in use today such as infrared
phototransistor technology, capacitive technology, ultraviolet technology and
camera based technology. R.K.B. was the first company to incorporate
cameras as potential sensors back in the mid 1970's and patented this technique
called the Vidicon 7000. Today R.K.B. invests a majority of its finances
to research and development in new sensor techniques. Among
our many innovations besides our splice detection technology, which is the world
leading technology used for the detection of splices (joint), is our very
successful coating streak and scratch defect detection technology. This
patented technology, now being emulated/copied, by various German inspection
suppliers, detects streaks and scratches as small as 1 micron at any process
speed.
R.K.B. OPTO-ELECTRONICS, INC., designs, develops, manufactures, and markets the
most diverse line of machine vision and web inspection technologies currently
available to web based material manufacturers. R.K.B., headquartered in
Syracuse, New York, has offices and partners worldwide in Asia, Europe, South
America and the Middle East.
